In order to create and distribute specialized training materials and consulting services appropriate for the growth of robust and dynamic institutions and individuals capable of supporting initiatives for reducing poverty and achieving Millennium Development Goals in peri-urban and rural areas, SEIDA, a nonpartisan socio-economic development consulting firm, was established.
To promote and collaborate with agribusiness sectors and development agencies/programs, SEIDA seeks to strengthen the collective actions of smallholder producers. For the livelihood initiative, which targets women and youth in Tanzania’s agricultural sector, SEIDA is looking for expertise.
Open Positions and Description
1. Agronomist
Responsibilities:
- Enhancing agricultural productivity, creating more effective planting, growing, and harvesting methods, and resolving client issues.
- Maintaining thorough records of crops, yields, customers, and fields.
- producing reports and presenting results to clients, management, or other relevant stakeholders.
- Using instructional presentations to conduct training on production, harvesting and post-harvesting, goods, and processes.
- Overseeing all operations will help you achieve and sustain the maximum possible level of output and operational efficiency.
- Determine and carry out agricultural production-related strategic initiatives, such as planting, harvesting, and post-harvest operations.
- Create field planning, planting and harvesting schedules, production budgets, and action plans in addition to crop yield statistics.
- To guarantee efficient and timely output, organize and supervise every aspect of agricultural production.
- Examine the agricultural and food goods’ quality control.
Requirements:
- Agronomy or agriculture with a bachelor’s or master’s degree, preferably with a focus on soil science, post-harvest technologies, and management, and at least five years of work experience
- It could be desirable to have more training and experience.
- Maybe more certifications are needed.
- A current driver’s license and the desire to ride a motorcycle.
- Capacity to stand, walk, kneel, and stoop for prolonged periods of time when working outside.
- Proficiency with computers, particularly with Microsoft Office and scientific tools for analysis and diagnosis.
- Outstanding verbal communication, report-writing, and active listening abilities.
- Strong ability to make decisions and to think critically and solve problems.
- Knowledge of technological advancements, market trends, and innovations.
- Farmers’ education and abilities as facilitators
- The capacity to labor outside in a variety of weather situations
2. Post Harvest Specialist
SEIDA is looking for a suitable applicant to join a group of technical professionals in charge of training, providing technical advice, supporting post-harvest technologies, storing, and other tasks for various crops, such as horticulture, grains, and sunflowers. Seida is looking to hire a Postharvest Specialist to handle the following responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
The Specialist will carry out and oversee PHM-related tasks while working directly under the Project Coordinator’s supervision. In particular, will be in charge of the following:
- Collaborate closely with a network of Farmer organizations (FOs) that are funded by the project to make sure they implement enhanced technologies and post-harvest loss management strategies that are customized to smallholder farmers’ requirements.
- Collaborate with the communications and M&E teams to analyze data, present findings, and highlight successful initiatives.
- Collaborate with the value chain and additional technical professionals, such as those in charge of market development, environmental compliance, and agricultural finance, to create, develop, and instruct suitable postharvest handling procedures and processes.
- Enhance post-harvest practices and facilities for grading, sorting, and packing in order to increase the amount and quality of grains, sunflower, and horticultural products available to particular buyers.
Eligibility and Requirements
- Qualifications: A degree in food science, agribusiness, agriculture, rural development, or a similar discipline (postgraduate in post-harvest technology and management).
- Experience: three or more years of minimum relevant experience in planning and overseeing projects or businesses with a market systems focus, including value chain development. It would be beneficial to have experience creating solutions for small-holder farmers in remote or rural locations. a track record of success in offering smallholder farmers technical and/or business solutions, as well as implementation and advice on PHLM models.
- Knowledge & Skills: Have outstanding writing and communication abilities. Flexibility and adaptability to changing goals and changing customer needs; Ability to operate autonomously in a timely and organized manner. the capacity to gather information, analyze it, and develop business plans with concrete goals; strong proficiency in computers; networking abilities to communicate with clients and business partners; familiarity with marketing and advertising techniques; previous sales experience; experience in new business development or working for a start-up. a readiness to experiment and investigate novel concepts and methods in one’s own work.
