The incumbent will be the principal responsible officer for UNESCO communication policy and planning, working with colleagues from various sectors, field offices, and institutes to streamline communication priorities and scheduling, particularly in crisis situations through the mainstreaming of crisis communication.
Major Responsibilities
- Take the lead in creating and organizing CPE’s strategic communications plans.
- Serve as the secretary of UNESCO’s Communications Board and oversee and organize CPE’s, sector-specific communication focal points’, and program teams’ communications activities.
- Serve as the main point of contact for communications during a crisis. You will be responsible for creating and directing communication campaigns and key messages in response to crises, natural disasters, or conflicts that require UNESCO to take rapid action.
- Create, oversee, and carry out the monitoring and assessment of the effects of communication initiatives and products to support top-level decision-making throughout the Organization.
- Oversee the development of communication-related administrative and financial procedures and manage the strategic communications planning team.
Eligibility and Requirements
- Education: Master’s degree or above from an advanced university program in public administration, communication, or a similar field.
- Experience: At least ten (10) years of steadily increasing responsibility in a suitable professional capacity in the field of public information, with seven (7) of those years ideally spent abroad.
- Skills: Capacity to take the initiative, prioritize and organize tasks to meet deadlines, and balance conflicting priorities.
- Language proficiency: Excellent written and spoken English or French, with a good grasp of the other language.
