The Secretary of the Public Service Employment Secretariat, on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions, welcomes job applications from Tanzanians with the qualifications and ability to fill eighty (80) job vacancies as listed in this announcement.

The National Prosecuting Office (NPS) has been established as an independent Public Office through Government Announcement No. 49 dated February 13, 2018, to implement the constitutional authority given to the Director of Prosecutions to manage Criminal Justice in accordance with the constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania of 1977, Article 59B. In addition, in carrying out his constitutional duties, the Director of Public Prosecutions will consider, among other things, doing justice, preventing the abuse of justice delivery procedures, and managing the public interest under Section 8 of the National Public Prosecution Law Number 27 of 2008.

Open Positions and Description

1. Government Attorney Grade II – 60 Positions

Duties:

  • Conducting light criminal proceedings
  • Conducting light cases of appeal to the Supreme Court
  • Preparing charge documents, applications, and other related documents
  • Receiving and handling complaints against the National Prosecution Office
  • Handling witnesses before, during, and after testifying in court
  • Reviewing files from investigative agencies
  • Conducting research in the conduct of criminal cases
  • Collecting and analyzing criminal case statistics and preparing reports

Applicant Qualifications:

  • Recruiting graduates of Form VI with a first degree in Law from universities recognized by the Government and who have completed Practical Law Studies from the Institute of Practical Legal Studies.

2. Legal Secretary Class II – 20 Positions

Responsibilities:

  • Receiving copies of the Court’s records concerning the deliberations of crime
  • Keeping a diary of the hearing dates, submitting various documents to the court and the parties involved
  • Keeping track of documents required in criminal proceedings
  • Opening case files as directed by his/her Head of Work
  • Reviewing and preparing a list of case files to be opened
  • Performing other tasks in his/her field as assigned by his/her superior

Qualifications:

  • Hiring Sixth Form Graduates with a Bachelor of Law from a college recognized by the Government.

Application Process

  • Applicants retired from the Public Service are not allowed to apply unless they have the approval of the Chief Secretary.
  • Job applicants who are already employed in entry-level positions in the public service should not apply and should follow the instructions contained in the Circular and CAC. 45/257/01/D/140 dated November 30, 2010.
  • Submission of information and falsified characteristics of the parties will be taken legal action.
