We are looking for a driven, imaginative, and experienced leader who is prepared to increase HerStart’s influence. At YCI We are seeking individuals to join our team who share our belief that youth can be strong change agents and who are committed to advancing national and international gender equality agendas in order to support women’s economic empowerment.

Major Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Assist in critical performance areas such as Partner Innovation Fund, Catalyst Fund, and training quality programs by offering technical skills and management level oversight.
  • Financial Management and Operations: Assist with the management of various systems and procedures, such as financial reporting, cross-country program procurement, and financial performance processes.
  • Program Learning and Reporting: To improve results for young women entrepreneurs, staff, partners, and volunteers, coordinate learning opportunities across HerStart stakeholders;
  • Strategic initiatives: raise project awareness in Tanzania, Uganda, and Ghana in order to better support young female entrepreneurs and attract participants;

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Must be able to live and work in Zanzibar, Tanzania; must be a citizen of the East Africa Community.
  • Seasoned executive with a minimum of ten plus years of increasingly accountable senior management leadership experience.
  • A proven track record of overseeing, planning, directing, and carrying out donor-funded initiatives, together with expertise supporting staff teams and a dedication to team management and mentoring
  • Possess a strategic perspective, are adept at creating and carrying out workplans that effectively accomplish challenging objectives, and have strong budgetary and financial management abilities.
  • Proven track record of overseeing sizable project budgets and the related financial obligations
  • Experience handling a challenging and complex job, together with the capacity to prioritize tasks and work on one’s own
  • Good communicator with outstanding written and spoken English skills.
  • Enthusiastic about supporting the livelihoods of women and young people and motivated by the potential of innovation and entrepreneurship
  • A dedicated team player with the ability to collaborate across teams and professional skill sets in various cultural contexts and establish productive working connections.
  • Show that you have a comprehensive awareness of the ideas underlying both young women’s empowerment and gender equality.
  • It is highly advantageous to have experience with sub-granting processes and/or the creation and execution of capacity building programs.
  • Acquainted with design thinking and in line with the Lean Startup methodology
  • Possess an understanding of the role that volunteers play in global development and, preferably, have prior experience working with or providing assistance to volunteers.

Application Process

We will only consider applicants who are a citizen of the East Africa Community, with ability to live and work in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Relocation costs will not be covered by YCI. This position will include up to 30% travel.  Taxes and Social Security will be paid in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
